Laser welding machine application on silicon steel sheet

The silicon steel sheet is a ferrosilicon soft magnetic alloy with a very low carbon content, generally it has a silicon content of 0.5 to 4.5%. The addition of silicon can increase the electrical resistivity and maximum magnetic permeability of iron, reducing coercivity, core loss (iron loss) and magnetic aging.

Industrial silicon steel sheet has excellent electromagnetic properties, it is an indispensable important magnetic material in the industries of power, telecommunications and instrumentation. It is commonly used in tableware, motor parts, can containers, air conditioning parts, small home appliances parts, microwave oven parts, lighting, small hardware parts, furniture accessories, etc.

Due to the complicated process, narrow process window and difficult production, the silicon steel sheet is known as the artware in steel products, especially grain-oriented silicon steel sheet. Therefore, the welding of silicon steel sheet is also a big problem, the traditional argon arc welding is very easy to burn tungsten needle and it often takes a lot of time to change the tungsten needle, the mass production cannot be achieved at all. While using the laser welding technology to weld the silicon steel sheet, the weld seam is narrow, the penetration is deep, the weld seam is parallel on both sides, and the heat affected zone is small.

The Laser welding machine uses laser as the welding power source, which uses high-energy laser pulse to locally heat the material in the region. The laser energy diffuses into the material through heat conduction, and the material is melted to form a specific molten pool. It is a new type of welding, laser welding is mainly for welding thin-walled materials and precision parts.
The microstructure of laser weld seam, when the high-power laser beam is welding, because of its extremely high energy density, the welded workpiece undergoes thermal cycling of rapid heating and cooling, making the weld seam and heat-affected zone extremely narrow, and its hardness is far higher than the base metal, therefore, the plasticity of this area is relatively low.
